🧠

Recovery score

How scroll tracking works

1

On-Device Detection

When you scroll Reels or Shorts android's local Accessibility Service registers the scroll gesture and filters class/view tags to make sure it is an active short-form container.

2

Local Storage

The count is incremented and stored directly to your phone's secure SharedPreferences. No logs or event traces ever leave your device.

3

Mascot & Overlay

The dynamic brain mascot reacts in real-time, changing expressions from Happy to Dead. Enabling the floating pill overlay lets you see your live scroll count inside other apps.

4

Join Battles

Connect with friends using an anonymous Friend Code. Sync aggregated daily counts to compete in 1v1 daily battles, weekly races or joint community boss fights.

Privacy promise

BrainRoll uses Android's Accessibility API to count scrolls entirely on your device. Battles need to compare your count with friends', so a few small numbers sync to our server that's it.

  • Aggregated daily total (one number per day)
  • Recovery score and streaks
  • No watched content, captions or URLs
  • No per-app activity or per-event traces
  • No account email, phone or social login

Frequently Asked Questions

How is BrainRoll different from Google Digital Wellbeing?

Traditional Digital Wellbeing only tracks total minutes an app is open. BrainRoll is a targeted digital wellbeing alternative: it uses Android Accessibility APIs to count actual scroll gestures inside Reels, Shorts and TikTok. You can still message friends or post without hitting limits, targeting only the addictive scroll hooks.

How does it help stop doomscrolling?

BrainRoll makes your screen addiction visible by rendering a live scroll counter overlay inside social apps. Additionally, it gamifies phone addiction recovery through daily Friend Battles, Weekly Races, community Boss Fights and a rolling 14-day Recovery Score.

Does it drain my battery?

No. The accessibility service is written in native Kotlin and is highly optimized. It only triggers tracking logic when a supported app is active in the foreground and immediately goes to sleep otherwise. It does not perform network requests or background processing when the phone is idle.

Is there an iOS version?

No. Apple does not allow third-party apps to access system-wide accessibility features or detect scroll events inside other apps due to sandbox restrictions. BrainRoll is built specifically to leverage Android’s native capabilities.

Is my data secure?

Yes. All scroll tracking is done entirely on your device. We do not track URLs, images, comments, text inputs or accounts. If you opt into Battles, only a single daily total number (e.g., 85) is synced securely via signed HMAC-SHA256 tokens to prevent tampering and no email or personal details are required.

Is BrainRoll safe to use?

Yes, completely. BrainRoll is built with a strict privacy-first architecture. All scroll tracking is processed locally on your device using Android Accessibility APIs. We do not track URLs, images, comments, text inputs, accounts, or personal data. Only aggregate daily scroll counts are optionally shared if you participate in Friend Battles, and no email or phone number is required.
